Thought leader in happiness

Meik Wiking

The world's happiness researcher. As CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen, Meik has spent his career studying why some people — and some societies — are happier than others.

Portrait of Meik Wiking

“Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.”

Meik Wiking

A life's work in wellbeing

Meik Wiking founded the Happiness Research Institute, an independent think tank that explores the causes and effects of human happiness and works to improve quality of life for people around the world. He advises governments, organisations and companies on how to measure and improve wellbeing.

He became a household name with The Little Book of Hygge, which introduced millions of readers to the Danish concept of cosy, connected contentment. He followed it with The Little Book of Lykke, a global search for the ingredients of happiness, and The Art of Making Memories, on how the moments we remember shape a happy life.

His central message is refreshingly practical: happiness can be measured, and once you can measure it, you can improve it — through relationships, generosity, time in nature, and savouring the small everyday joys.
